Azithromycin: antibiotic to treat bacterial infections

Azithromycin comes as tablets, an extended-release suspension, and an oral suspension. The tablets and suspension are usually taken with or without food, once a day for 1 to 5 days. For the prevention of disseminated MAC infection, azithromycin tablets are usually taken with or without food, once a week. The extended-release suspension is usually taken as a single dose on an empty stomach. To remember to take azithromycin , take it at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take azithromycin exactly as directed. Do not take a larger or smaller dose or take it more often than directed by your doctor. Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medicine. Use a measuring spoon, oral syringe, or measuring cup to measure the exact amount of medicine. Rinse the measuring cup with water after taking the entire dose.
